Old Dominion released the latest track from “our most personal record ever.”

The band — made up of Matthew RamseyTrevor RosenWhit SellersGeoff Sprung, and Brad Tursi — debuted “Water My Flowers” on Friday (June 6). Ramsey, Rosen, Jerry Flowers and Jordan Reynolds teamed up to write the song, which appears on Old Dominion’s upcoming 13-track album, Barbara.

“Every night I close my eyes/ And pray for something I can hold on to/ Where she at, what do I gotta do/ Tell me, who’s gonna water my flowers/ Who’s gonna cry my name/ When they lay me down in the cold hard ground/ And I meet my higher power/ Who’s gonna water my flowers”

“But when we write for Old Dominion, especially this time, we’re bringing more of ourselves into the room,” the award-winning group wrote in an Instagram caption when they announced Barbara earlier this week. “These are our songs, so they should be pulled from our lives. You don’t realize as you’re writing necessarily, but when we listened to these 13 songs, we all realized: it’s our most personal record ever.”

Ramsey and his bandmates said “we’re excited for you to meet” Barbara as they introduced her to fans. The group’s frontman said “when you’re bringing something to life, you’re always trying to come up with the right name. Sometimes you’re waiting for the right moment to speak to you. You finally land on what the name is, and once we found out it was a girl, then Barbara became the name. If it was a boy, it would be Carl. The album is Barbara. …She’s beautiful and we’re excited for you to meet her.”

“Water My Flowers” joins “Making Good Time” and “Me Most Nights,” which Old Dominion released in February and April, respectively. Barbara will add to a growing list of projects from the reigning Country Music Association Vocal Group of the Year and Academy of Country Music Group of the Year, following Meat and Candy (2015), Happy Endings (2017), Old Dominion (2019), Time, Tequila & Therapy (2021) and Memory Lane (2023).

Barbara will arrive on August 22. Listen to “Water My Flowers” here:
