Kelly Clarkson put her own spin on a classic Keith Urban anthem.

Clarkson delivered a rendition of Urban’s “Somebody Like You” during the Kellyoke performance on The Kelly Clarkson Show. Urban released the single in the early 2000s, and it remains one of his most popular hits today. It appeared on Golden Road, a 12-track project that also included “Who Wouldn’t Wanna Be Me,” “You’ll Think Of Me,” “You Look Good In My Shirt,” “Raining On Sunday” and other highlights.

“There's a new wind blowin' like I've never known/ I’m breathin' deeper than I've ever done/ And it sure feels good/ To finally feel the way I do/ Now I wanna love somebody, love somebody like you/ I’m lettin' go of all my lonely yesterdays/ I’ve forgiven myself for the mistakes I've made/ Now there's just one thing/ The only thing I wanna do/ I wanna love somebody, love somebody like you/ Yeah, I wanna feel the sunshine/ Shinin' down on me and you/ When you put your arms around me/ Baby there ain't nothing in this world I can't do/ Sometimes it's hard for me to understand/ But you're teachin' me to be (the best I can)/ I don't want to take this life for granted like I used to do/ I wanna love somebody, love somebody like you/ I’m ready to love somebody, love somebody like you/ I wanna love somebody, love somebody like you”

Clarkson’s cover of “Somebody Like You” marked the latest performance paying tribute to a country artist. The growing list also includes covers of hits by Maren Morris, Lainey Wilson, George Strait, Keith Whitley, Jelly Roll, Brandy Clark, Danielle Bradbery, Jackson Dean and many others.

Urban, who will take the stage at the 2024 CMT Music Awards on Sunday (April 7), released his newest single last month. “Messed Up As Me” is “a song about a relationship that is kind of pretty dysfunctional, pretty messy, except for one part of it and that one part of it is amazing,” Urban, who has yet to announce more details about his next album, previously said via his record label. “In fact, that one part is so good that you figure out just putting up with all the rest that is dysfunctional, possibly toxic and just messy. Between the two of you, that one thing is well worth it.”
