Carrie Underwood took her Instagram followers behind the scenes as she gears up for the second leg of her high-energy “Denim & Rhinestones Tour,” which is set to pick up again on Thursday (February 2) in Miami, Florida.
Many of Underwood’s fans likely know because of photos she’s shared on social media (or by catching the powerhouse artist’s previous performances) that Underwood ascends into the air via an “orb” to perform “Crazy Angels,” flying above the arena crowd in one of the most memorable moments of the show.
“Yes, I'm one of those crazy angels/ Tilted halo with a neon shine/ Call me one of those crazy angels/ Even good girls wanna have a good time/ Heaven knows I'm flying low tonight”
Underwood spotlighted the unique set piece in a reel shared on Instagram on Tuesday (January 31). The “Ghost Story” superstar said: “This thing… it’s called an orb, but I call it the molecule because it looks like a molecule to me. I’ll be riding in, on, around, sitting up here, dangling down there, and all around this thing for ‘Crazy Angels,’ and I’m excited to have learned new tricks here.”
“The orb is up on this track here because I will be going above the audience, and it also spins around, which is really cool,” Underwood continued as she shared a behind-the-scenes glimpse of the orb. “I think it’s just so beautiful and such a cool element that I can add to my show. That’s one of my favorite things, is figuring out in different shows how I will see everybody else in the audience. Because we’re in these big ol’ arenas, there’s lights and bright things, and sometimes you see these people and you feel these people, but you wanna see (everyone else), too, and go say hi. So, we always like to figure out some way to do that.”
Underwood — who is also getting ready for her next round of Las Vegas residency dates this year — has also used the orb to perform “Crazy Angels” during the 2022 American Music Awards in November, taking place at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles, California. She’s bringing it back on the second leg of the “Denim & Rhinestones Tour,” bringing Jimmie Allen along on the nationwide trek in support of her latest album, Denim & Rhinestones. The 12-track project included “Ghost Story,” “Hate My Heart,” “Pink Champagne,” “She Don’t Know” and other fan-favorites.
