The Untold Story Behind Luke Combs' Famous Dodge Neon

Can you imagine rolling up to a stoplight to look over and see Luke Combs crammed inside of a silver dodge neon? Plenty of people have seen him.

"The Silver Bullet" is what they called it," laughs Luke in a recent interview with Cody Alan.

"Here's how I ended up with the Neon by the way. This is a good story," Luke teases.

"So, my parents bought me a used car. A lady that my mom worked with had a Subaru Outback, I mean, it was 10 years old, but it was in really great shape," Luke shares. "Leather seats, heated seats, electric window thing - Well, I wrecked it like two months after I got it, right?"

"I was pretty sad about it," says the "Beer Never Broke My Heart" singer. "My parents were like, TICKED. They didn't have a lot of money, so saving up for that car was a lot for them."

"I am not sure, but I feel like the Neon was out of spite a bit because my dad called me. I was in school, and I get the "Luke Combs, please come to the principal's office," thing and I was like, "Oh no! What did I do?"

"So, I get down there, and my dad is there, and he was taking me out of school. He's like, "We are going to go pick your new car up!" and I am like, "SICK. Like it's going to be like an escalade or something?" laughs Luke.

"We drove like an hour away," says Luke. "We pull into the classic used car dealership, you know the one, like the half wide trailer, not a single wide, it's like a half wide trailer. There's like a guy in there smoking cigs. This guy comes out and goes like, "Yeah, this thing was totaled a while ago, but me and my son fixed it up."

"I just remember seeing it, and I was like, "Man, I have to drive to school in this vehicle," laughs Luke. "It was like, "fine," it wasn't rusted out or anything, but it wasn't leather heated seats. We are talking, roll-up windows, rolling locks, no clicker thing. But, that was my penance for wrecking the decent car that my parents got me in the beginning."

We are happy to report that Luke has since upgraded to dropping tailgates, as well as songs that are perfect for your next tailgate party.
