Cody Alan, Producer Curt, and Lauryn Snapp can agree that Reese's Peanut Butter Cups are the best candy to find lurking in Halloween buckets this year.
As Halloween quickly approaches, we are taking this time to dish on all things candy-related by remembering our favorite candy as a young trick-or-treater, the best candy to eat according to your dentist, and which candy was the most popular the year you were born.
FAVORITE CANDY BY GENERATION:
- 1960: Swedish Fish - These chewy candies really caught on in the 60s.
- 1962: Now and Later - A big hit with kids, not so much with dentists.
- 1967: Starburst - They launched in the U.K. in the 60s and became a favorite when they hit the states in '67.
- 1971: Laffy Taffy - The jokes on the wrappers made this a Halloween favorite.
- 1975: Pop Rocks - Despite the urban legend, these won't make your stomach explode.
- 1977: Tootsie Roll - They had a catchy jingle back then and this was their big moment.
- 1980: Big League Chew - This pouch of gum was a huge hit when it came out in 1980.
- 1981: Jelly Belly - Thank President Reagan for this one. They were a favorite of his.
- 1982: Reese's Pieces - This is the year "E.T." came out featuring the new-ish candy.
- 1985: Sour Patch Kids - Coming out at the height of Cabbage Patch Kids mania helped this candy become super popular.
- 1987: Air Heads - This new candy was an instant hit.
- 1990: Hershey's Bars - The classic chocolate bar was big this year.
- 1993: Hershey's Cookies' N' Creme Bars - This one was a game-changer and people loved it.
- 1996: Gummies - All kinds of gummy treats were popular that year for some reason.
- 1999: Jolly Rancher Lollipops - Next-level love for fans of the fruity candy.
- 2002: M&Ms - Maybe it was the introduction of purple M&Ms that made these a favorite in 2002.
- 2004: Candy Corn - These are the classic Halloween candy. Nice to see them on this list at least once.

DENTISTS LIST OF WORST HALLOWEEN CANDY FOR YOUR TEETH. Keep your smile happy and healthy:
- Sticky candy - The worst offenders? Chewy candies like taffy and anything gummy because they linger on the teeth, which gives them more time to cause tooth decay. Caramels are in this group too, and all of these can damage fillings, braces, and orthodontic appliances.
- Sour candies - These are bad for teeth in two ways since they contain both sugar and acid. The acid breaks down tooth enamel, which is the hard outer shell that protects teeth.
- Lollipops - Like their cousins, hard candies, these are meant to be enjoyed slowly, meaning teeth are exposed to sugar for a lot longer than they are with treats you chew quickly. And if you dare to bite down on one, the American Dental Association warns it can fracture a tooth if you're not careful!
And now for the good news:
- Chocolates - It turns out one of the tastiest things to find in your kids' Halloween haul is actually one of the best when it comes to oral hygiene. Dr. Messina explains that because chocolate doesn't linger on teeth for too long, it's less of a risk for tooth decay than some other candy options.
