Reese Witherspoon To Star In Two Upcoming Netflix Rom-Coms

Reese Witherspoon is coming to Netflix!

According to a new report from Variety, Witherspoon is set to start in two rom-coms exclusive to the streaming platform. The two upcoming projects will mark Witherspoon's first collaboration with Netflix. She's no stranger to working with streaming platforms, though. Her latest hit TV show Little Fires Everywhere, which she produced through her company Hello Sunshine and starred in, was a popular and critical success for Hulu.

The first of Witherspoon's upcoming rom-coms is a collaboration between Hello Sunshine and Jason Bateman's production company Aggregate Films. The title of the project is Your Place or Mine, which follows two long-distance best friends who change each other’s lives when she decides to pursue a lifelong dream and he volunteers to keep an eye on her teenage son. Your Place or Mine will also feature the directorial debut of Aline Brosh McKenna, whose previous screenwriting credits include The Devil Wears Prada and Crazy Ex-Girlfriend. Brosh McKenna also wrote the script for Your Place or Mine.

Witherspoon's second starring vehicle for Netflix is an adaptation of Sarah Haywood's bestselling novel The Cactus, which follows a 45-year-old woman dealing with an unexpected pregnancy. The pregnancy ultimately changes the course of the reserved woman's life in the most unexpected ways.

“We have been looking for the right feature opportunities to collaborate with Ted Sarandos, Scott Stuber and the entire team at Netflix for a while and we couldn’t be more excited to be working with them on these two romantic comedies,” Witherspoon told Variety. “Both Sarah Haywood’s and Aline Brosh McKenna’s stories blend everything we love about traditional RomComs with strong, smart and determined female leads."
