With stars in their eyes, sparks continue to fly between Blake Shelton and Gwen Stefani.
Whether they're on screen or behind a microphone, this duo has something very special, and now, they are stepping out together again with a new duet called "Nobody But You."
In an interview with Cody Alan, Blake shared how this love story ballad found its way to the couple. Spoiler alert: Although this song wasn't intended to be a duet when written, the lyrics hit too close to home for Blake and Gwen, making it impossible for them to consider not recording this song together.
"You know the song came through Shane McAnally, who is working on this NBC show called, "Songland," Blake begins. "Shane has also written with Gwen before, and he was at our show, on 'The Voice,' to promote his show 'Songland.'" Blake paused and laughed, "Yeah, I know it's all inbred."
"Anyway, Shane comes up and goes, "Hey Gwen, I need to get this song to Blake!" and she goes, "Well, send it to me, and I'll give it to him!" So that's how I ended up with the song."
Blake continued to explain that Gwen brought him the song, and after listening to the song together, they were taken entirely by how closely the lyrics mirrored their relationship. Candidly, they were both stunned. "I haven't asked him this yet, but I need to… it is literally our story," shared Blake. "There are so many lines in this song that just slay me. It was obvious to me that she needed to be on it."
Gwen and Blake's shared reaction of surprise and awe quickly brought them together, where they found themselves listening to the song on repeat. "We play something over and over and over again, and I think that the first time that we heard it, we played it at least 12 times."
